Stefan Hampden principal

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Stefan worked for architectural firms in New York, Boulder, and Seattle, as well as teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado. Graduating from the University of Washington School of Architecture in 1997 with a Masters of Architecture, Stefan founded CAST, in 1999 with Matt Hutchins. In addition to working as a partner in CAST Stefan is a regular part time lecturer at the University of Washington School of Architecture.

Matt Hutchins principal matt@CASTarchitecture.com
Graduated with Honors from the University of Colorado and Arizona State University. Prior to CAST, Matt practiced in Boulder, Aspen and Phoenix, designing custom residential, mixed-use and commercial buildings. He has taught design drawing at the University of Washington School of Architecture, undergraduate design studios at Arizona State University, and has written articles for Building Edge Magazine. He is an artist with a primary focus in wood block printmaking.

Tim Hammer principal tim@CASTarchitecture.com
Tim has worked on a spectrum of residential, multifamily and mixed use projects with a concentration on custom residential work. He specializes in residential architecture that seeks to find a balance between private and public, shelter and exposure.
Tim’s work has been influenced by his interest in traditional Japanese architecture, small space design and Urban density issues. His path has been fueled by an 18-month research scholarship to study urban housing in Japan while a graduate student. This interest has most recently manifested itself in his efforts advocating for the passage of the Seattle Backyard Cottage ordinance. He is currently engaged in the design of efficient and elegant homes and cottages in various Seattle neighborhoods.
Tim is a registered architect in the State of Washington. He received a master of Architecture from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Art and Design from Montana State University.

Forrest Murphy project manager forrest@castarchitecture.com
Forrest has a wide range of experience working with private and public clients from the non-profit sector. He has worked with religious institutions such as Temple Beth Am, Seattle University School of Theology, and Temple Ahavath Beth Israel; with cultural institutions such as the Wing Luke Asian Museum, the Squaxin Island Tribe and the Burke Museum of Natural History; and with educational institutions such as the University of Washington, Peninsula College, Seattle Central Community College, Grays Harbor College and Olympic College.
Prior to coming to CAST, Forrest worked with Schacht | Aslani Architects in Seattle and Torres/LaPeña Arquitectos in Barcelona, Spain.
Forrest is a registered architect in the State of Washington and is a LEED accredited professional. He received a Master of Architecture from Yale University.
