FAMILY HOME RENOVATION & ADDITION — SEATTLE MODERN ARCHITECTURE — PACIFIC NORTHWEST DESIGN
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
This remodel of a 1930s northeast Seattle home brings needed space filled with special details in harmony with the landscape. The original home had the whole family in close quarters, while the new design gives everyone room to spread out, improves the function of shared areas, and offers the clients a private retreat with the master suite tucked into a beautifully landscaped corner of the property.
The charcoal hue of the exterior contrasts against the wood accents. The expressive roof structure with custom steel tension rods for the new entry porch is a welcoming nod to the interior. The back patios are seamless extensions of the indoor living spaces.
The design is sensitive to the scale and character of the existing wing of the house (an addition done by CAST many years prior for the former owners) while taking advantage of contemporary design sensibilities—playful window openings, clever structural details to maximize light washing, and thoughtful details throughout.
The primary suite feels serene and calming with warm woods and light walls. A floating sink adds beauty and whimsy to the spa-like room. Windows draw in light and frame views throughout the bath and bedroom with a strong visual connection to the garden.
