SPOKANE FOUR
MULTIFAMILY — MISSING MIDDLE HOUSING — SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE
SPOKANE, WASHINGTON
The Spokane Four is inspired by Passive House principles, is a compact rectangle, conventionally framed, with a slab on grade foundation and trussed roof—all of which contributes to a very low cost per square foot. It has exterior continuous insulation and extra attic insulation to achieve very little heat loss and air infiltration and therefore significant energy savings over the life of the building. Despite the high performance, low-tech shell, the fourplex has gracious front and back porches that embellish the simplicity of form with a highly articulated, appealing streetscape that can be adapted to the style of the neighborhood.
The two-story scale is perfect for its neighborhood infill town lot where it will be adjacent to single-family residences. The homes have 9’ 6” ceilings and have windows on three sides. One of the four units will be made affordable through Washington state’s Multi-Family Tax Exemption (MFTE) Program.
Green Design: Designed to Passive House principles.
