WOLF CREEK RETREAT
HOME DESIGN — cabin — METHOW VALLEY ARCHITECTURE
METHOW VALLEY, WASHINGTON
Located mid-valley, in the Methow, the siting of the Wolf Creek Retreat lets the ridgeline dominate views from the great room. Clerestory windows atop the vast glass doors bring in the spectacular natural landscape of this special locale.
The kitchen, warm with Doug fir and quartz countertops anchors the southeastern end of the home. A dual-way swing kitchen door to the pantry makes it a breeze to enter through the pantry from the garage.
The home feels larger than its 1,560 square feet. Concrete floors throughout unify the space. Details like extra-deep wood window sills and carefully planned lighting warm the rooms.
The long, covered front entry is designed to face west and gain winter sun penetration for snow melt. A mudroom connects the entry to the pantry. A metal mesh insert in the mudroom, behind the wood stove in the adjacent dining space offers a place to hang-dry winter hats and gloves.
Thoughtfully placed on the eastern side, the covered patio is shaded from the hot summer sun and extends the great room. The exterior, in pre-rusted weathering steel panels, takes on a deep claret hue and contrasts with the black enamel roof and trim. A detached workshop aligns visually with the entry columns and provides for gear and snow machine storage.
